Colin M. A damn fine album. Crank it up and rock on! The digipak is worth it for the two bonus tracks as well, if you don't have their two recent Splits. Favorite track: Know the Score.

Morts I reckon Oculus is even better than Splitting Sky! A somewhat more energised performance, perhaps. There's a touch more variety to the tempos in these tracks, but none of the solidity has been sacrificed. Essential for your collection! Favorite track: Know the Score.

Oculus delivers Borracho’s signature fuzzed out, dynamic grooves with heaping helpings of the low-and-heavy the band’s audience has come to expect. The songs are sonically familiar, with a clear emphasis on riffs and rhythms, but the vibe the band achieves is a step in a freer power-trio direction. The album doesn’t lack for hooks, either, in its five songs and 35 minutes, and captures the guys stretching out to epic proportions as they are known to do. Longtime fans and those just discovering the band alike have a lot to sink their teeth into.

The album was named to ten 2011 best-of-year lists and earned the band a reputation as serious riff-slingers. It showcased the band’s songwriting talents and uncanny ability to craft memorable hooks. ... more
